This hit the headlines last week with many newspapers reporting that mindfulness was only helpful for women and not men. Not quite true, but they have to have a controversial headline!
Although the research that was undertaken found that more women experienced positive benefits, it does not completely discount the effectiveness for men and it does recommend further research and exploration of more gender-specific courses.
Both men and women attend my courses and in evaluating them I have found that there has been no marked gender difference. Not exactly scientific, but anecdotal and I suspect that like anything else, you get out of a mindfulness course as much as you put in.
So whilst these studies are important, and mindfulness teaching is an emerging field, don’t let this put you off and come along to a course to see for yourself. You never know what you might find!
